Cleanliness

First things first, let’s get a myth out of the way. People think that as soon as you go anywhere near your bum you’re going to get shit on everything. Not so! The rectum is designed to be a conduit for faeces, but once you’ve expelled the poo, you’re rectal muscles close back up again, effectively leaving the rectum empty.

So as long as you’ve had a normal bowel movement, and aren’t ‘busting for a crap’, you’re arse isn’t going to be full of shit!

Generally, if you’re having regular bowel movements, and are following good bodily hygiene your anal area will be pretty clean already. There’s a few things you can do to help things a little more.

When you shower, ensure you clean thoroughly around the anus, the warm water is relaxing, and you may find you want to wriggle a finger inside a little. This is all good for cleanliness.

To take it further, you may wish to use a bulb douche, a simple plastic bulb which you fill with plain water and gentle insert into the rectum. A little squirt and allow it to run out again, all whilst in the shower.

Alternatively, you may wish to use a water-based lubricant (that you’ll need for the toys later), and use your finger with some lube, and gently insert, this lube and finger will help to clean your anus now, ready for later.

Also, anal play can be a little sore sometimes, indeed, even if you’re not playing anally, the bum can be a little sort just from it’s usual job of excretions. You may wish to soothe it with a little Savlon, or something for anal complaints, such as Preparation H. Prep H is great, it’s a clear gel, and is not dissimilar to sexual lubricants! A gentle fingering with some Preparation H will help ease things along later on.

You can do some any or all of these types of cleaning methods whilst you are in the shower. Or if you’re already clean and dressed, you could use the moist toilet tissue products available to ensure cleanliness, or good old baby wipes! They’re not just for babies.

Also, good hand hygiene is important, before and after anal play, make sure your fingernails are clean, short and smooth.
