Prostate Nutritional Supplements and Prostate Disease

A healthy lifestyle and a healthy diet are two factors that yield a healthy body and mind. In this article, I will be particularly concentrating on prostate nutritional supplements and prostate cancer. There has been too much talk about prostate cancer, but only a little focus on what is the regimen that could prevent this disease or other forms of prostate disease from developing.

There is a sickness called prostate dysfunction, which is in parallel to a nutritional disease. Therefore, an alteration on a diet is needed to treat this sickness. According to certain studies, this dysfunction is popular to Western countries where animal-derived diet is highly popular, e.g.: eggs, dairy products, and red meat. These are kinds of food that naturally gathers environmental toxins. On the other hand, diets that are high in fruit and vegetables have a protective tendency.

The current studies made by different countries are challenging our perceived wholesome foods. Let me provide an example, the contemporary findings suggest that milk can actually be dangerous for the prostate. It has been found that countries that have the highest consumption of milk have the highest prostate cancer cases as well. The guilty party is said to be the calcium found in milk. If there is an excess of calcium ingestion, the synthesis of Vitamin D is hampered. This synthesis reduces the growth of cancer cells on prostate, which may lead to prostate cancer.

For men whose diet have high tomato content are less likely to have prostate cancer. This is also true for those who regularly consume guavas, pink grapefruit, and watermelon. The main player for reducing the risk of cancer is the content in these foods, the lycopene. Yes, the same agent that gives the red colour of the fruits I have mentioned. This lycopene does not only prevent cancer, it also diminishes the size of an active tumor.

Another ingredient found in fruits that could protect the prostate is fructose. This is the natural sweetener that is being used in different cuisines. According to a recent research, consuming fruits that are rich in fructose triggers the production of Vitamin D that hinders the formation or growth of cancer cells in the prostate.

A little backtrack. According to a traditional folk remedy, pumpkin seeds are good for ensuring the healthy state of the prostate. This old belief could in fact be real as it is high in zinc. It is the prostate that needs and uses zinc a lot compared to other parts of your body. Through modifying the metabolism of steroid hormone, the zinc that is absorbed by the body can stop the enlargement of the prostate.

Another prostate nutritional supplement that can prevent prostate disease is Selenium. With people who have developed prostate cancer, it has been found that they are deficient in this nutrient. Hence, it is important to include foods that are high in Selenium in your diet. The following foods are good sources of this nutrient: Brazil nut, Breakfast Cereal, and pasta. Hence, don’t miss out on your main meals.

Vitamin D, Vitamin E, soy-based foods, and garlic are other nutrient supplements that you could add on your diet to ensure your prostate’s health. Vitamins D and E are antioxidants that reduce the growth rate of cancer cells. Tofu and soya milk have cancer-inhibiting agent known as genistein. Lastly, garlic is rich with sulphur compounds that can fight off cancer.

Health is an investment. Therefore, you have to do little sacrifices for the health of your prostate. The foods and supplements that I have mentioned would not demand too much of your money. Moreover, they are very tasty. So, enjoy a good life with these prostate nutritional supplements.
